The Florida Tech chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) welcomed 238 new members during an initiation ceremony April 16 at the Gleason Performing Arts Center.

The faculty and staff initiates are Toby Daly-Engel, Travis Hunsucker ’11 M.S., ’16 Ph.D., Ratan Jha, David McMahan and Christian Sonnenberg ’04, ’07 M.S., ’13 Ph.D.

PKP acceptance is based on superior scholarship and sound character, Florida Tech PKP president Mary Bonhomme said in her opening remarks.

“We are pleased and proud that each person has chosen to become a part of a century-old community of scholars and professionals that includes individuals who have distinguished themselves in positions of leadership in careers that have been characterized by achievement,” she said.

Initiate Dimitrios Karademitros ’23 was awarded the Chapter Scholar’s Award. The award, which comes with $1,000, recognizes an outstanding new chapter member.

Karademitros graduated magna cum laude from Florida Tech, earning a B.S. in aviation management with flight and an aviation safety minor. He is also a certified flight instructor and is pursuing a master’s degree in aviation human factors.

Founded in 1897, PKP is the nation’s oldest and most selective multidisciplinary collegiate honor society. PKP initiates approximately 20,000 members a year on more than 300 campuses.

Florida Tech’s chapter was established in fall 2008.
