City of Melbourne to Recognize WFIT’s ‘FM Odyssey’ Program and Creator/Host Fred Migliore

Launched in 1991, Sunday Show of Music and Conversation Marks 35 Years on the Air in 2026

MELBOURNE, FLA. — As it marks 35 remarkable years on WFIT’s airwaves, Fred Migliore’s award-winning FM Odyssey weekly radio show will receive a first-ever honor: a proclamation from the City of Melbourne recognizing both the show and its creator and host.

“For over 35 years, FM Odyssey has served as a gathering place of the airwaves—a destination for music lovers seeking thoughtful programming, engaging artist interviews and the kind of deep listening experience that transforms radio from mere entertainment into genuine art,” the proclamation reads in part.

The ceremony will take place around 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 4 at the Sonic Waves Music Festival, held annually at Intracoastal Brewing Company in the Eau Gallie Arts District. This year’s event runs 2-10 p.m. and will feature Space Coast bands Mangrove, Dollmaker, The Satellite Killers and Angelina Bucci along with the Weatherboys from Tallahassee.

The setting is fitting given Migliore’s passion for emerging music and belief in the value of learning about music as well as listening to it.

“Fred has enriched our community not only through his broadcasting but through his commitment to music education, his participation in local events, and his tireless advocacy for the preservation of classic and progressive rock as a meaningful cultural heritage,” said WFIT General Manager Stephen Yasko.

Originally called “Another Unconventional Sunday Morning,” the program that became FM Odyssey began, along with Migliore’s radio career, in 1991. It bought listeners on an unparalleled journey through the worlds of classic rock, progressive music and album-oriented radio – through both music, storytelling and interviews – and in short order established itself as a favorite in the broadcasting community.

Over the years Migliore has distinguished himself as a consummate radio professional whose passion for music, encyclopedic knowledge and warm on-air presence have created an intimate and enduring connection with listeners across generations.

“Listeners keep tuning in because it feels like a conversation,” Migliore said in a September 2025 story on WFIT’s 50th anniversary. “It’s not just the music—it’s the voices, the stories and the discoveries.”

The show earned national syndication in 1998 and was renamed FM Odyssey. It has attracted some of the biggest names in music for interviews with Migliore, including Bill Joel, Judy Collins, Dan Fogelberg, Arlo Guthrie, Jackson Browne and Ray Manzarek of The Doors.

Steven Keller, WFIT’s program manager, said Migliore’s show is vital to the music scene across the Space Coast and the nation.

“FM Odyssey has championed artists both legendary and emerging, providing a platform that celebrates the artistry, storytelling and craftsmanship of album-oriented music at a time when such dedication to the form is more vital than ever,” he said.
