Panthers Hold Off Axemen 71-66 in Exhibition Play

MELBOURNE, Fla. (men’s basketball) – The second exhibition game for Tech’s men’s basketball team ended victorious as they defeated the Axemen of Acadia
University 71-66.

Opening up on their home floor the Panthers battled with the Axemen as the two kept close with their opponent. Both teams shot extremely well from the
field with both teams shooting 50% or better. Acadia shot 60.9% from the field while the Panthers shot 50% from the field. Acadia shot better from long
range shooting 66.7% in the half while Tech shot only 25%. The game stayed close at the end of the first half with Acadia being on top by three, 38-36.

The second half began much like the first with the two teams battling for a lead. Tech finally broke through taking a 12 point lead with just under six
minutes to play; 63-51. With the end of the game nearing, Acadia made a run of their own narrowing the lead to five but couldn’t overcome the Panthers
solid defense. Tech held off Acadia by five as Tech’s Joe Salls (Homewood, Al) notched the final points of the game.

On the afternoon, four players scored in double figures for the Panthers with Justin Sedlak (Pezinik, Slovakia) leading the team with 20, Carl McNally
(Cocoa Beach, Fla.) totaling 12, Ryan Ballard (Melbourne, Fla.) scoring 11, and E.J. Murray (Rockledge, Fla.) scoring 10 points. Tech shot just under 42%
from the field and only 28% from three-point range. Defensively, the Panthers as a team caused havoc on Axemen causing 26 turnovers, 17 of which being
steals.

The Panthers go on a week break and next host the Orlando All-Stars in their last exhibition match on Saturday, November 11th at 7 pm in the Clemente
Center.
