Florida Tech Volleyball Falls To Florida Gulf Coast In Four Games
FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Florida Tech volleyball team came up short in a grueling four-game match against tough south region opponent Florida Gulf Coast
(14-2), dropping a 3-1 decision. After falling in the first game 30-17, Florida Tech (4-14) bounced back to win the second game 30-26, but the host Eagles
proved to be too much, winning the final two games 30-17 and 30-18.
Individually, several Panthers had solid showings. Senior Kelly Currin (Waynesville, Ohio) posted a .276 attack percentage and led the squad with 12 kills
and three total blocks. Sophomore Lindsay Foster (Titusville, Fla.) hit a team-high .300, sophomore Katie Dobek (Sterling Heights, Mich.) recorded a
match-high 21 digs and sophomore Amanda Boyce (Madison, Wisc.) registered a double-double with a team-high 20 assists and 11 digs. Junior Natasha Bender
(Columbus, Neb.) also tallied 12 assists.
Florida Gulf Coast tallied a .358 attack percentage, while limiting Florida Tech to just .111 over the four-game match. Three Eagles recorded double-digit
kills, led by senior Devon Watts (Summerville, Tex.), who notched 13 kills. Defensively, Florida Gulf Coast posted 20 total blocks, compared to just seven
for the Panthers.
The Panthers will return to action Friday, October 7 when they host Sunshine State Conference rival Nova Southeastern at 7:00 p.m. That contest will be the
first of three matches to be played in a four-day stretch at the Clemente Center.
