Florida Tech an Elite Sunshine State School, U.S. News Best College Rankings Find

For 12th Consecutive Year, University Ranked Among Nation's Best

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Tech was again ranked as a top national university in the 2022 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges ranking.

Assessing 1,466 bachelor’s degree-granting institutions on 17 measures of academic quality, including retention and graduation rates, peer assessment surveys, class sizes, and faculty compensation, the annual rankings include about 400 schools in the magazine’s Best National Universities category.

For the 12th year in a row, Florida Tech is among that group. It is one of just six private Florida schools on the list. Additionally, among 78 Florida-based colleges and universities on the Best Colleges in Florida rankings, Florida Tech was tied for No. 8.

Florida Tech was recognized for its STEM strengths, as well.

The university was among the top 202 schools nationwide and one of just nine Florida institutions included on the Best Colleges list for undergraduate engineering programs at schools that offer doctorates in engineering. These rankings are based on the judgments of deans and senior faculty at peer institutions.

Florida Tech was also cited for its undergraduate computer science programs. Among 538 schools nationwide, Florida Tech’s program was No. 178, and 5th among the 17 Florida programs included.

“Florida Tech is a very good university with a great future,” said President T. Dwayne McCay. “The success of our alumni remains our biggest strength, as they are leaders in their fields. The best is yet to come for this university on the rise.”

The magazine again noted Florida Tech’s international diversity. The university’s 22 percent of international students was fourth in the country, behind only three New York-based schools – The New School, University of Rochester and New York University.

“International students can add diversity to a college or university, enriching the experience of other students on campus,” the magazine wrote. “Schools with a strong global presence often have a wealth of cultural groups and events, allowing international students an opportunity to share their food, music and traditions with their U.S. peers.”

Earlier this year, the publication featured two Florida Tech online programs in its inaugural 2021 Best Online Bachelor’s Programs ranking. Florida Tech’s online business bachelor’s program was No. 2 among 73 private universities, and its online psychology program was the No. 3 private school on the list.

Annually offering more than 100 different numerical rankings and lists, the full 2022 college rankings are now available.
