Stogie Kenyatta Is Paul Robeson in Florida Tech One-Man Show Feb. 17

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Florida Institute of Technology Caribbean Students Association will present Stogie Kenyatta as iconic African American dramatic artist/activist Paul Robeson (1898-1976) in “The World Is My Home—The Life of Paul Robeson,” on Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. in the university’s Gleason Performing Arts Center.

Kenyatta will portray 10 characters, taking the audience through the life of history’s first Black Renaissance man and one of America’s most complex, brilliant citizens. An athlete, actor and singer, Robeson also became an outspoken civil rights activist.

Kenyatta’s performance of Robeson has been called powerful and poignant, entertaining and educational, heartfelt and humorous. Kenyatta uses stand-up comedy skills, satire, singing and storytelling to introduce the audience to Robeson in a show that covers the Harlem Renaissance, with music from Ellington, Coltrane, Fats Waller, Cab Calloway and Robeson, himself.
