Florida Tech Lauded for Seminar Presentation On Research Opportunities
MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Office of Research at Florida Institute of Technology recently hosted a seminar led by Cathy Fore, director of collaborative initiatives, within the University Partnerships Office of Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU). She spent an entire day visiting all Florida Tech colleges, giving presentations on student and faculty research opportunities with ORAU and meeting with faculty to discuss research projects.
“The broad spectrum of expertise and facilities that Florida Tech has is very impressive, particularly related to computational sciences, physical sciences, engineering, aeronautics, psychology and business,” said Fore. “It’s also notable that the university’s strong interdisciplinary approach in these research areas has a direct connection with ORAU’s core competencies, which will aid greatly in fostering new and enhancing existing ORAU collaborations.”
The ORAU is a university consortium leveraging the scientific strength of 102 major research institutions to advance science and education by partnering with national laboratories, government agencies and private industry. The ORAU manages the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education for the U.S. Department of Energy.
The ORAU works with its member institutions to help their students and faculty gain access to federal research facilities throughout the country; to keep members informed about opportunities for fellowship, scholarship and research appointments; and to organize research alliances among members.
“As a national research university, Florida Tech welcomes all opportunities to disseminate information and to collaborate such as this very valuable presentation made recently by ORAU,” said Florida Tech Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer T. Dwayne McCay.
Since 1989, Florida Tech students and faculty have enjoyed access to a host of opportunities for study and research through its membership in the ORAU. For more information about ORAU and its programs, visit: www.orau.org.
