Panther Volleyball Sweeps Through Jaguar Classic 4-0

AUGUSTA, Ga. (Aug. 25, 2007) – It was a sweeping victory for the Panthers over the weekend as the
Florida Tech volleyball team completed the ASU Jaguar Classic on Saturday, winning two additional games. Tech overtook USC Aiken in a 3-2 battle and
defeated Clark Atlanta 3-0 to wrap up the tournament.

The first game against USC Aiken was neck-and-neck with the score remaining within three points the entire time. In the end, USCA got the victory and led
the series 1-0. The second game started similarly to the first, but with three kills the Panthers started to pull away and won 30-18 to tie the match.
Florida Tech dominated the service and attack lines in the third game and won 30-22, but USCA fought back and won game four, 30-23.

Tech scored four quick points at the start of game five, but USCA quickly recovered and made it a nail-biter to the finish. The Panthers held on for an
18-16 victory in the deciding game. Leading the way for the Panthers against USCA were Marcela Vasconcelos with 31 assists, Amanda
Boyce with 31 digs, and Sacha Gumbs with 19 kills.

The Panthers had a relatively easier time with Clark Atlanta, winning the first game 30-13 and game two by a score of 30-18. They were riddled with passing
and serving errors throughout the third game, but pulled it together to shut down their opponent and win 30-24. Frankie Brown contributed
10 kills and seven digs while Aurora Jover added 27 assists.

Following the final match they gathered in the center of the court and celebrated their success.

“We’re glad we started out strong and got the season off on the right foot,” said senior Lindsay Foster. “Our talent level is just that
much higher than in the past, as well as our level of cohesiveness.”

Head Coach Qi Wang was proud of their effort and felt the weekend was a success.

“This weekend was very valuable,” said Wang. “It was a good opportunity to test their style, skill and mentality in a real game situation.”

Now the Panthers come home to one of the strongest volleyball conferences in the country and are aware of the challenge ahead of them.

“We played well for our first tournament, but we still have a lot to work on,” said junior Amy O’Brein. “Conference play is much harder.”

Although Tech has doubled their wins over last season, their goals haven’t changed.

“We want to go out and play strong every single game,” said Foster.

The Panthers will play their first home match Monday night at 7 p.m. in the Clemente Center against Dowling College.
