Groundbreaking for Health Sciences Building Oct. 16
Florida Tech President, Board Chairman to Speak
WHAT: Groundbreaking ceremony for the Health Sciences Research Center at Florida Tech.
WHEN: 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16
WHERE: Olin Quad south of the Olin Life Sciences building and across the pond from the Olin Physical Sciences building. Media parking will be available in Lot 20, just south of the L3Harris Center for Science and Engineering.
WHY: To celebrate the start of construction of Florida Tech’s newest building, an $18 million, 61,000-square-foot structure that will help the university respond to the rising job demands in biomedical engineering and related fields. The new building is expected to double the size of Florida Tech’s undergraduate biomedical engineering program to 300 full-time, on-campus students and increase the undergraduate premedical program from 150 to 250 students.
WHO: Florida Tech President Dwayne McCay and Board of Trustees chairman Robert Phebus will offer remarks at the ceremony. They will then be joined by board vice chairman Travis Proctor, Executive Vice President and Provost Marco Carvalho, Kevin Ivey from Ivey’s Construction and Angelina Wheeler-Chong from MelD Studio Architecture for the ceremonial groundbreaking.
