Girls in Aviation Day Happening Sept. 23 at FIT Aviation

Free Event Offers Activities, Education

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Young girls interested in aviation and the possibilities of flight are invited to the 3rd annual Girls in Aviation Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at FIT Aviation, 901 Harry Goode Way at Melbourne International Airport.

The free event is hosted by the Women in Aviation Space Coast Florida Tech Chapter. It is designed for participants ages 8-17.

Aviation businesses such as Lockheed Martin, Rockwell Collins and organizations such as the Spaceport 99 women’s pilot group will have informational displays. Guests may also use a Rockwell Collins flight simulator, experience an unmanned aerial system display, and participate in airport design activities.

“Attendees can experience aspects of the aviation industry and discover how their passion for flight may become a career,” said Victoria Dunbar, associate dean of Florida Institute of Technology’s College of Aviation. “We hope our event allows girls to experience some aspects of aviation and in a small way, help further their interest in the aviation industry.”
