Ranking: Florida Tech No. 2 Among State’s Private Colleges and Universities

Florida Tech is among the very best private universities in Florida, according to a new ranking from the editorial content company Stacker.

The distinguished Melbourne university was No. 2 on the list of top 10 private colleges and universities in Florida, behind top-ranked University of Miami and ahead of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Stetson University, Rollins College and others.

Stacker compiled a list of the best private colleges in Florida using data from Niche released in 2024. Niche ranks schools based on a variety of factors including academics, value for money, professors, campus and diversity.

“Private and public schools play important roles in the postsecondary landscape, offering top-tier education and valuable opportunities outside the classroom,” Stacker noted in its rankings. “But some characteristics of private institutions—namely size, reputation and flexibility—make them more appealing to prospective students.”

Stacker also used Niche data to rank the top 10 colleges and universities, private and public, in Florida. On that list, Florida Tech was No. 9.

“While best college lists are often topped with the same handful of expensive Ivy League schools, the U.S. is home to more than 4,000 degree-granting schools spread out across all 50 states and several territories, with amazing education offerings for students to consider,” the site noted.
