Newsweek Rankings Highlight Strength of Florida Tech Online

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Tech is the top traditional online university in Florida according to new rankings from Newsweek magazine that also rate the Melbourne-based university as a top 30 online school nationwide.

For its America’s Top Online Colleges 2025, Newsweek worked with the firm Statista to conduct a survey of more than 10,000 individuals who have used online courses to obtain an academic degree or knowledge for jobs or hobbies.

The top 250 schools that made the cut were ranked based on organization, support, price, reputation, success, recommendation, practical relevance and overall satisfaction.

Florida Tech was No. 26 nationally, joining the Clearwater-based vocational institution Ultimate Medical Academy as the only Florida schools in the top 30. A total of four Florida schools were in the top 50.

Newsweek is not the first august publication to highlight the strengths of Florida Tech’s online offerings. In early 2024, U.S. News & World Report, in a nod to the depth of the university’s quality education, ranked multiple online programs in its 2024 Best Online Program, including online master’s in information technology and online bachelor’s in psychology programs.

The university offers 35 degree programs for undergraduate and graduate students in a host of fields, and students can complete them at their own pace as they balance education with their daily lives. Florida Tech announced in July it had enlisted the educational technology company Risepoint to support its deep portfolio of online degree programs.
