Sky High Opportunities You Don’t Want To Miss

So, what might possibly be better than a career fair for an aviation student to find jobs and internships? That’s easy, it’s an aviation career fair!

Every semester, Florida Tech holds a Career Expo that many companies come from all over to recruit Florida Tech students and graduates. This event always gives students a great opportunity to network with employers, practice talking professionally and hand out a few resumes that might lead to a job! On the morning of this year’s Fall Career Expo, I put on my suit, printed out a few copies of my resume and headed over to Clemente Center to do some networking.

The Career Expo is a diverse group of companies that are looking for many different kinds of students; therefore, not all the companies may be interested in you. There will be companies like Harris Corporation, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Gulfstream that are looking for engineering students. It is important to network with the companies that are interested in aviation students. At this year’s fair, I was lucky enough to talk with companies such as Louis Berger, Lufthansa Technik Components, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Satcom Direct. All of these companies were interested in aviation students and gave out internship opportunities and contact information.

Although the Fall Career Expo was great, it seemed to be just practice for the event that was taking place two days later. The past few semesters, the College of Aeronautics has been holding their own aviation career fair for students during the same week as the general career fair. The aviation career fair is focused on finding pilots, aviation planners, aviation meteorologists, airport managers, operations specialists and more. This year’s aviation career fair had a great turnout from companies such as:

  • Cape Air
  • COPA Airlines
  • Delta Air Lines
  • Lee County Airport Authority
  • Southwest Airlines
  • Silver Airways
  • U.S. Air Force
  • U.S. Navy
  • Republic Airways Holdings
  • Trans States Airlines
  • Kingfisher Air Services
  • Endeavor Air

I talked to many of the companies that I have been interested in working at for a long time. I was given names to contact about positions that I wanted to pursue and was able to learn a lot about the companies that have opportunities for me.

It is important to take advantage of opportunities like these at Florida Tech. These companies come to Florida Tech for one specific reason, and that is to hire Florida Tech students and graduates. Many times it takes you being at the right place, the right time, talking to the right person that can snag you that dream job you have always wanted! Make sure to follow the College of Aeronautics Facebook page to find out when that opportunity of a lifetime may be next.
