Spring Autism-Related Workshops: Pediatric Feeding Disorders Is Feb. 23
MELBOURNE, FLA. – Florida Institute of Technology’s School of Psychology offers free monthly workshops of particular interest to parents, educators and professionals who deal with issues of autism. They are scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Scott Center for Autism Treatment
Seminar Room.
The Feb. 23 workshop is “Assessment and Treatment of Pediatric Feeding Disorders.” Presenter Cathleen Piazza, Ph.D., is a professor of pediatrics and director of the Pediatric Feeding Disorders Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. She has directed similar programs at the Marcus Institute in Atlanta, Ga., and at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Md.
Piazza and her colleagues have examined various aspects of feeding behavior and have developed a series of interventions to address one of the most common health problems in children with autism and other developmental disabilities. Her research in this area has been among the most systematic in the field and has established behavioral approaches as preferred methods of assessment and treatment for children who display feeding problems such as tantrums, food refusal and food selectivity.

The Seminar Room is located on the second floor of the Scott Center for Autism Treatment at the south end of the Florida Tech campus. Parking is available off Psychology Place, near University Boulevard.
