Panthers Lose to Barry Buc’s in Non-Conference Action

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.- Despite an early lead by 4 runs in the first three innings the Florida Tech Panthers (2-2) were unable to keep it together in the final
three innings allowing the Barry Buccaneers (2-3) to come back and score eight runs in the sixth and seventh innings rolling past Tech 11-5 at the
Feinbloom Field this evening.

Tech came out the gates strong scoring three runs in the first inning from the top of the order with junior SSC Player of the Week Jon Baksh (Mississauga,
Canada) snapping one up the middle allowing senior Bryan Stanton (Melbourne, Fla.) and junior Steve Condatta (Mississauga, Canada) to reach home. Baksh
would later score on two errors by the Bucs and a stolen base.

But the Bucs starter Michael Davila settled down after the first to pitch five innings, allowing only one more unearned run and the Bucs began to chip away
at the lead. In the bottom of the third, Frank Lorenzo blasted a lead off home run to make it 4-1. In the fourth, Gabriel Casanova ripped a two-run single
to score Brian Martinez and Frezza.

Tech’s starter SSC Pitcher of the Week junior Jay Crouse (Naples, Fla.) pitched five innings as well allowing only three earned runs on five hits while
fanning five. Tech’s reliever junior Jody Danca (Naples, Fla.) fell victim to the Bucs in the seventh finishing 1.1 innings with four runs on four hits
becoming the losing pitcher of record. Newcomers freshman Mike Piazza (Port St. Lucie, Fla.), junior Matt Woods (Lake Hamilton, Fla.) finished out the
seventh and combining for four more runs and five more hits. Second year pitcher Mike Campbell (Melbourne, Fla.) closed the game striking out one with no
hits.

After the Panthers added a run in the top of the seventh to make it 5-3, the Bucs exploded for a five run frame in the bottom of the inning. With one out,
Jerry Thornton singled through the right side and Alex Meneses followed with an identical shot. Cesar Aranguren drove in Thornton with a single and
Martinez followed with an RBI double to plate Meneses. Frezza capped the inning with his first career homer.

Andrew Frezza belted a three-run homer to cap a five-run seventh inning that propelled the Bucs (2-3) to their second straight victory.

Barry added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth. Lorenzo singled, stole second and third and scored on a hit by Meneses. Thornton scored on a balk
by Panther reliever Matt Woods and Aranguren drove in Meneses with a single to right.

Ray Rhoads (2-0) pitched two innings in relief of Davila, allowing just three hits and no runs. David Bernat closed out the win for the Bucs, striking out
three of the four batters he faced.

Baksh finished going two-for-four with three runs and two RBI’s. Sophomore Brendan Twomey (Boca Raton, Fla.) led with three hits and pitched in one RBI in
the third inning. Stanton went two-for-four as well with one run scored.

The Panthers will be back in action on Friday hosting Palm Beach Atlantic. The game is scheduled for noon. On Saturday the 11th the Panthers are holding
their 2006 Annual Alumni Day. This year the Panthers will be honoring former Tech player Tim Wakefield, former coach Les Hall, and former coach Andy
Seminick by retiring their jersey numbers. This is the first time Florida Tech will be retiring numbers in baseball. The ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m.
prior to the first pitch of the game.
