FIT Celebrates Holi!

Holi, The Festival of Colors, celebrates the end of the cold winter and the beginning of a warm spring.

The dates vary each year depending on the Hindu calendar. This year, however, it landed on March 17, and Florida Tech decided to take part. Student Government Association (SGA), alongside Indian Student Association (ISA), put together an event on Sunday, Match 16. I among many students took part in this festival.

I finally got to enjoy it for myself, rather than watch it happen in Bollywood movies. I have to say they did a great job. All those that participated had an awesome time dancing, singing, playing with water and of course color.

Of course, that’s not how the day ended. Later that day we were all able to enjoy traditional performances put together by members of ISA and then traditional Indian food, including naans, butter chicken, biriyani and much more, courtesy of the two amazing organizations. There was also a henna station outside of Gleason where anyone could point out a design and have it tattoo’d on to their hands.

After the mind-blowing performances and the excellent food, it still wasn’t over. Many went on to Gleason where a dance party was thrown for everyone to come together and dance to Indian music. I participated and was glad to see a lot of people from all over the world come together and celebrate this day. It was great to see the FIT community coming together.
