Florida Tech Presents Free Public Lecture, ‘Big Data: A Closer Look’ Jan. 31

MELBOURNE, FLA.—“Big Data: A Closer Look” is the next Florida Institute of Technology Department of Computer Sciences Public Lecture. This talk is free and open to all Friday, Jan. 31, 7-8 p.m. in the auditorium of the F. W. Olin Life Sciences Building on the Florida Tech campus. This is part of a continuing series of talks that discuss how computing has changed the world.

The presentation will address the impact computational advances have made on society related to the large amounts of data now collected about everybody. Faculty members Philip Chan, Debasis Mitra and Ryan Stansifer will briefly explore some key ideas in applications such as product recommendation by Internet retailers, identifying unsolicited e-mail, organizing news articles and DNA sequence analysis.
