Jorge Mesquita ’83, Citizen of the World
Born and raised in Mozambique, Africa, and of Portuguese descent, Jorge is a true global citizen. He has lived and worked in several countries, including Venezuela, Mexico, Brazil, and the United States.
Spending more than forty percent of his time abroad in global leadership roles, Jorge speaks Portuguese, Spanish, and English fluently.
He earned his bachelor of science in chemical engineering from Florida Tech in 1983. Over the years, he has accumulated diverse experiences. Jorge has a strong track record of building and marketing global brands, developing consumer-insight-driven innovation capabilities, leading strategic business turnarounds, and driving profitable growth. “My time at Florida Tech allowed me to meet many wonderful, diverse people, and these connections have had a lasting impact on me,” he said.
Jorge currently serves as executive vice president and worldwide chairman for Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies. He also serves on the corporation’s Executive Committee. Previously, he spent his first fifteen years at Procter & Gamble, working in various capacities across Latin America.
During his tenure at J&J, Mesquita has served as group president of new business creation and innovation. He redesigned the company’s business development organization and worked across the corporation with technology, marketing, and finance leaders to develop groundbreaking innovation capabilities. He has also led major global business units in the home care and fabric care categories and was recognized for the reinvention of major brands, such as Tide, Swiffer, Febreeze, Downy, and others.
Over the years, Jorge has served on several professional and community boards, including the Cincinnati Opera Association Board of Trustees. He currently serves on the board of CADCA, which is dedicated to representing those working to make their communities safe, healthy, and drug-free, as well asthe Mondelez Board of Directors, a position he has held since 2012.
