Oceanography Graduate is Making a Splash with Her Degree

Rebecca Lynn Medvecky graduated from Florida Tech in 2006 with a degree in Oceanography.  She is currently a Chemistry Technician for Mote Marine Laboratory, a leader in marine research with seven research centers located throughout Florida.

“I think my ability to do my own research as an undergraduate prepared me most.  It was a prelude to graduate school, but it was also a great introduction into the job world.  I currently work as a chemistry technician in Ecotoxicology’s Chemical Fate and Effects Program at Mote Marine Laboratory.  I collect and process samples that we examine for toxins.”

Mote’s Center for Ecotoxicology investigates natural and man-made environmental toxins – where they come from, how they break down in the environment and what effects they have on humans and marine animals.  Mote has been actively involved in studying the effects of the BP Oil spill in the gulf.  Florida Tech is proud to have graduates who are truly making a difference in the world.
