It’s Never Too Early to Start Your Business

When is it a good time to start your own business?  Most people think that the best time is after college, or after working in the industry for a few years.   But what might surprise you is that an increasing number of college students are beginning to use their school resources to develop their idea into a business plan or even a marketable product.  The key for such a shift toward younger entrepreneurs is the Internet.  The Internet is a young sector that offers a low start-up cost and minimum prior business experience.  Look at some inventors that use the internet as their launch pad to success:

Florida Tech has a wide range of tools you can use to develop your idea.  You can begin to shape your idea and determine how feasible it is by visiting the Florida Tech Student Business Incubator which is located at University Plaza. There you can always find students and professors tweaking their ideas and inventions. Once you get that figured out, you can use the multiple labs around school to design your idea. Your idea could be a widget, web widget, service, app—you name it.  Once you get into the prototyping stage, Florida Tech has a very good machine shop and a 3D printer at the Student Business Incubator.  If your idea is online-base, keep in mind that Florida Tech allows every student to set up their own website on the my.fit.edu server.  Remember that you have a wide variety of professionals in just about every field in existence at Florida Tech and most of them are willing to help out here and there.

If you want to make a degree out of it, look at the Master of Science in Innovation and Entrepreneurship offered by the Nathan M. Bisk College of Business. It is an interdisciplinary, three-semester-long program that teaches you how to be a successful entrepreneur and allows you to use your idea as your project.  Throughout your three semesters, you are able to develop your idea into an invention and at the end, if the idea is promising, you will be introduced to several venture and can pitch your idea so that you can get funding and begin your start-up company.
