1,388 to Earn Diplomas from Florida Tech; Commencement Is Dec. 14 in Two Ceremonies

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Charles and Ruth Clemente Center is the site of Florida Institute of Technology’s fall commencement ceremonies on Saturday, Dec. 14. The undergraduate ceremony is at 9:30 a.m. with an expected 298 graduates attending to pick up their diplomas; commencement for those earning master’s and doctoral degrees is at 2 p.m. when an expected 491 graduates will participate.

The total number of candidates for degrees, 1,388, is for all campuses for both the Summer and Fall 2013 terms. These students have earned their degrees through the Melbourne campus; the university’s Extended Studies Department, which has 11 sites throughout the United States and a virtual campus; and about 550 of the total students have earned their degrees through online programs.

At the morning ceremony, one bachelor’s degree graduate will receive the Faculty Honors Award for maintaining a 4.0 (perfect) grade point average. He is Richard Leaper of Spring, Texas, an online student earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing.

Additionally, six U.S. Army cadets will be commissioned as second lieutenants in ceremonies the day before. They are: Justin Ryne Clement, with a degree in aviation management; Travis S. McConnell of Melbourne Beach, Fla., with a degree in communication-military science; Shaun Patrick Myers of San Antonio, Texas, with a degree in aviation management with flight; Stephen Edward James Quinn of Nokesville, Va., who is earning a degree in aviation management; Tristan Steven Steinmann, who is earning a degree in aviation management; and Armando A. Torres of Palm Bay, Fla., who is earning a degree in aviation management.
