Florida Tech Civil Engineering Students Earn Scholarships

– Several Florida Tech Department of Civil Engineering students have earned scholarships from a host of sources.

Three freshmen received the Civil Engineering Freshman Research Award (CEFRA), which is sponsored by the university’s alumni from that department. They are
Yeniree Chin Fong of Venezuela, Jeremy Crowe of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Kolby Maddox of Panama City, Fla. They were selected because of high grade point
averages and their interest in research. Fong and Maddox joined the research team of Dr. Jean-Paul Pinelli, Florida Tech associate professor, to help with
wind engineering tasks. They retrofitted the casing of wind pressure sensors and tested an anemometer on the highway and in a wind tunnel.

Other top civil engineering students received a variety of scholarships. Jenna Landis, of Telford, Pa., received an internship sponsored by Florida Rock
Industries, an engineering firm based in Jacksonville, Fla. Lennon Shade of Trinidad, received a PBS&J/Eric Primavera Scholarship. PBS&J is an
engineering and consulting firm with locations throughout the U.S. and in Puerto Rico, including an office in Melbourne. Nick Hansen, of Council Bluffs,
Iowa, received the 2005 Florida Engineering Society Eric Primavera Foundation Scholarship. The late Primavera earned a Florida Tech bachelor’s degree in
civil engineering in 1992, and a master’s degree in 1995.

Also, Shade, Maddox, Joe Morrissey of Panama City, Fla., and Gwen Tullar of Duncanville, Texas, earned the ASCE/M.H. Williams Endowment scholarship. The
ASCE is the American Society of Civil Engineering and M.H. Williams is M.H. Williams Construction Inc. of Melbourne.
