Joint Chiefs of Staff Member to Speak at Commencement

MELBOURNE, FLA. — The Charles and Ruth Clemente Center is the site of Florida Tech’s fall commencement ceremonies on Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. Highlighting the
event will be alumnus Maj. Gen. Michael Sumrall, assistant to the chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff for National Guard Matters, who will deliver the
commencement address.

Prior to this assignment, Sumrall was assigned as the deputy director for logistics and engineering, U.S. Central Command. He began his military career in
1966 as an enlisted soldier with the Alabama Army National Guard. During his long, distinguished career, he earned a master’s degree in logistics
management and an M.B.A. degree in contracting and acquisition — both from Florida Institute of Technology.

About 277 students will receive their bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degrees at fall commencement in Melbourne. Florida Tech will also confer
approximately 188 more master’s degrees through its University College Extended Studies Division, which has 10 sites throughout the United States and
a virtual campus.
