#24 Florida Tech Overtakes Eckerd in Womens Overtime Thriller
St. PETERSBURG, Fla. (women’s basketball) — #24 Florida Tech barely escapes the wrath of the Eckerd College Tritons coming up with a big overtime effort
scoring 12 points to take down the teal & blue underdogs 64-58 in Sunshine State Conference action.
Despite getting out hustled under the boards 50 to 42 for the night, Tech was able to work the clock at the end sending two Tritons including Tameron
Armbrister (Plantation, Fla.) and Gabby Gattuso (Largo, Fla.) to the bench after each fouled out for the contest.
Three Panthers were able to come out a scoring funk putting up double figures for the 25 minutes of play. Senior Danielle Vaughn (Tallahassee, Fla.) led
the team in shooting during regulation time finishing with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Break-out performer of the game was junior Amanda Muns (Chico, Texas.) who was not shy tonight launching the ball from downtown. Muns went flawless from
the arc hitting 3-for-3 finishing with 11 points and three steals.
Senior Jen Tamilio (Boston, Mass.) led all scorers with 13 points for the game notching six from the line in the final five minutes of overtime play.
Tamilio, who had a rough not shooting from the field hitting only 2-for 11, was the savior in post regulation play finishing with a flawless 8-for-8 from
the charity stripe.
Junior McKena Richardson (Quartz Hill, Cal.) tied Vaughn with rebounds grabbing eight for the night and chipping in five points.
Tritons’ Armbrister and Mo Gattuso (Largo, Fla.) notched double-doubles for the night with Armbrister finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds while the
younger of the Gattuso sisters’ had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
#24 Florida Tech (18-4, 10-2) finally med it into the top WBCA 25 poll this past week as the only
Sunshine State Conference school making the top 25. Tech is also ranked third in the NCAA DII South Region Poll for this week. Eckerd falls to 6-17 overall and 1-11 in the
SSC with the Panthers still in possession of the #1 spot in the conference.
The crimson and gray hoopsters will be back in action on Saturday, February 10th hosting Saint Leo with a 2:00 p.m. tip-off at the Clemente Center.
