Study Shows Humans Affected Amazon More Than Climate Change

An international research team, including ecologists from Florida Institute of Technology and University of Amsterdam, investigated the 7,000-year history of a tropical Amazonian forest and found that human disturbance, more than climate change, affected the species composition of tropical forests over the last 1,000 years.

More information can be found at Florida Tech’s press release.

The study was published were published March 18 in Ecology Letters in the paper, “A 7000-year history of changing plant trait composition in an Amazonian landscape; the role of humans and climate.”
