Lisa-Marie Sanders to Discuss Art Quilting at Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts July 18

Free Gallery Talk Coincides with Southern Accents Quilt Exhibition

MELBOURNE, FLA. — The Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts at Florida Institute of Technology will present a free gallery talk by featured artist Lisa-Marie Sanders at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 18, in the center’s galleries.

During the one-hour event, Sanders will guide attendees through the current exhibition, Southern Accents, and discuss art quilting inspiration and construction techniques. As she highlights the most influential factors for the artists featured in the exhibition, Sanders will encourage visitors to consider how their own environment attracts and influences them.

Sanders, an internationally known author, speaker and leadership consultant, is an award-winning quilter who has exhibited at the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky. Her love of quilting inspired her to write Quilting with Aliens, which has been sold in 28 states and seven countries. She continues to entertain and inspire quilters through her presentations, classes and articles in The Quilt Life magazine.

The gallery talk is presented in conjunction with the Ruth Funk Center’s quilt exhibition Southern Accents (by Studio Art Quilt Associates), on view through Aug. 22.

Regular hours for the Ruth Funk Center are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. The center is located on the Florida Tech campus at 150 W. University Blvd. in Melbourne. Admission is free. For more information, visit http://textiles.fit.edu or call 321-674-8313.
