7th – 12th Graders Invited to Dream Builders Summer Camps
– Florida Tech offers two summer civil engineering construction management programs this summer for middle and high school students on the Melbourne
campus. One is for 7th – 9th grade students; the other is for 10th – 12th grade students. Both are weeklong and were developed by Florida Tech’s Department
of Civil Engineering and the Construction Industry Advisory Board.
The 10th – 12th grade program includes field trips, design and construction projects, laboratory testing, and computer projects using Microsoft Project,
AutoCAD, and West Point Bridge Design software. Field trips will take students to residential and commercial construction projects. In this program,
students may attend as day students or as residential students living in the residence halls.
The 7th – 9th grade program offers “hands-on” workshops that are designed to introduce students to civil engineering and construction industry fields. They
will also learn about computer-aided design drafting, construction material properties and testing, developing project cost estimates, scheduling and
bridge design. Industry speakers will expose students to construction industry career choices.
