Allen Named SSC Freshman of the Year and Lundy Awarded All SSC Men’s Soccer Honors
ORLANDO, Fla. (men’s soccer) – In the announcement released by the Sunshine State Conference on Tuesday, October 31st, freshman striker Ross Allen (Castel, Guernsey, United Kingdom)
and senior captain defender Brian Lundy
(Satellite Beach, Fla.) were named to the Sunshine State Conference All-SSC Men’s Soccer Team.
Allen has been a welcome addition to the Florida Tech program, which won six games in 2006, the most by a Panther team since 1999. Allen currently leads
all SSC freshmen and stands tied for second place among all SSC players with 14 goals and 32 total points. His four assists also ranks second among Florida
Tech players.
This is the first time a Florida Tech player has solely been named Freshman of the Year; the last Florida Tech player to be awarded this honor was Stephen
Barnes in 1997 was a Co-Freshman of the Year. The only other time the Panthers have won top honors for Freshman of the Year or Player of the Year was
Martin Peat in 1994, who was also a Co-Freshman of the Year.
The Crimson and Gray Program which started in 1972 has had 94 SSC All Conference Members including this year’s two honorees. NCAA Division II record holder
Richard Sharpe was Tech’s only Men’s Soccer Player of the Year in 1991, 1992 and 1993. Sharpe still tops all collegiate players in DI, DII and DIII for
scoring and points.
Senior captain defender Lundy was one of five players to earn honorable mention on the year. Lundy was also awarded to the SSC All-Tournament Team after
the SSC Championships. During his four year stint at Florida Tech Lundy has totaled 6 goals and 8 assists for 20 points on his career.
