Autism Coalition Presents Free, One-Day Conference Sept. 17 for Parents, Professionals and Educators

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Brevard-PALS Autism Coalition presents a one-day conference for parents, professionals and educators on Sept. 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will be held at the Brevard County School Board offices in Viera. There is no cost. Refreshments and a light lunch will be served courtesy of Starbucks, Bald Strawberry and Chick-Fil-A. Brevard-PALS is a non- profit organization supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorders in Central Florida.

The morning session, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., will be on medical issues and autism. Speakers are Dr. Kent Leifer, pediatric allergy and immunology; Dr. Elisa Yoho, neuropsychology; Dr. Jeff Bornstein, pediatric gastroenterology; and Ashley Allen, dietetics.

The afternoon session, 1:30-4:30 p.m., will focus on community integration for young adults with autism. Speakers are Betsy Farmer, Promise Brevard; Robin Gipson, Florida Diagnostic & Learning Resources System (FDLRS) and another speaker to be announced..
