Florida Tech to Hold Aviation Safety Symposium Oct. 25; Dept. of Transportations Jeff Guzzetti to Speak

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Florida Institute of Technology College of Aeronautics Alumni Association (COAAA), the Florida Tech College of Aeronautics and FIT Aviation will hold the second annual Aviation Safety Symposium Oct. 25, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Gleason Performing Arts Center. The event, in conjunction with Homecoming 2013, is open to the public.

The event features keynote speaker Jeff Guzzetti at 8:30 a.m. Guzzetti is assistant inspector general for aviation at the U.S. Department of Transportation. He is an aeronautics engineer and pilot with 23 years of accident investigation experience with the National Transportation Safety Board, FAA, Cessna and the U.S. Navy.

The agenda includes four general sessions, including panel discussions and a roundtable discussion. They are “Restricted ATP (air transport pilot)—Will this make flying safer;” safety stories from the industry and how they were addressed; a new hire panel, “What you can expect your first year on the job;” and a chief pilot roundtable, “Pilots vs. Just Flying Airplanes.”

At 11:30 a.m. a contract signing will take place between Florida Tech and CommutAir, DBA United Express, which will provide for Florida Tech student internships and employment opportunities.

Additionally, tours of the Emil Buehler Center for Aviation Training and Research will be available from 6 to 7 p.m.
