Baseball Finishes off the 2007 Season 30-21

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (baseball) Tech manages to take only one game from the Tritons to fall out of post-season contention. On Sunday the Panthers split
with Eckerd falling in game one 4-to-7 and came back to take the nightcap 6-to-1. On Monday, the crimson and gray again could not pull it together
offensively and fell 5-to-1.

In game one, the Panthers suffered a tough fall despite grabbing the 4-3 lead after the third inning. Senior Eammon Powers (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the
way going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI including the deep shot over the right field fence to take the short-lived lead.

For the game, catcher Sam Palace (Clarkston, Mich.) went 3-for-4, while sophomore Eric Trillas (Hialeah, Fla.) drove in two Panthers on one hit.

In game two, Tech took advantage of some Triton errors in the second to jump ahead by four runs with senior Will Lanier (Jacksonville, Fla.), sophomore
Dane Maglich (Sarasota, Fla.), sophomore Kevin Villa (Miami, Fla.) and Palace all scoring.

Again in the third Palace scored off a deep shot to right field by Maglich and freshman Trevor Hearl (Cape Coral, Fla.) proceeded to bring Maglich home at
the next at bat shellacking the ball to centerfield to finish up the scoring for the Panthers.

Tech’s freshman starter Jonathan Cornelius (Land O’Lakes, Fla.) went the distance for the win. Seven was his lucky number going seven innings allowing only
one run on seven hits with seven strike-outs. Cornelius finishes the season with a 6-2 record.

In the final game, Palace again did the only scoring after Maglich, brought him home on an infield shot to second base. Powers led at the plate going
2-for-4.

For the series, senior Steve Condotta (Mississauga, Ontario) led his team with six hits batting .500 for the three games. Palace finished hitting .444 with
three runs, four hits, and two doubles, while Maglich batted. .375 going 3-for-8 with one run and two RBI’s. Rounding out the offense was Powers, who hit
.364, with two runs, four hits, one double, one home run and one RBI.

Florida Tech finished their 2007 campaign 30-21 and 12-12 in the SSC with a 5th place finish. Due to the upsetting final conference series, the Panthers
will not make up games against Saint Leo that were scheduled for Thursday the 10th as they would not help or hurt Tech’s post-season chances.
