Washington Monthly Ranks Florida Tech Second in State

Yet another indicator of quality is highlighting the impact of Florida Institute of Technology. The Washington Monthly‘s College Guide ranks Florida Tech
106th in the nation and second in the state of Florida. The rankings are meant to showcase what universities and colleges are doing for their communities,
states and country.

Washington Monthly states its criteria thus: “Universities should be engines of social mobility, they should produce the academic minds and scientific
research that advance knowledge and drive economic growth, and they should inculcate and encourage an ethic of service.” While Florida Tech ranks well in
all three areas, it is in the area of public service that it truly shines. The university’s ROTC program is ranked eighth in the nation by the magazine,
and is 68th in the nation in sending graduates into the Peace Corps.

Florida Tech President Anthony J. Catanese said public service is what separates American universities from their counterparts around the globe. “Because
service is unique to the American model of higher education, we’re extremely proud of our ranking in the Washington Monthly guide,” said Catanese. “We
believe that our graduates go out into the world with a better understanding of the global environment and the need to act on a local level.”

In total, the magazine ranked 245 national universities, including eight from the state of Florida.
