Clayton State Battles Florida Tech To Double Overtime Scoreless Tie
Morrow, GA –The seventh-ranked Clayton State University men’s soccer team battled Florida Tech to a double scoreless tie Saturday at Laker Field.
Clayton State controlled the match, outshooting the Panthers 17-3 but was unable to find the back of the net against a packed Florida Tech defense.
The Lakers best opportunity to score came with 3:27 remaining in the second overtime, as sophomore Pa’Alasan Jahumpa took a short pass from senior Alex
Dowling in the box. Jahumpa drilled a low line drive from 15 yards only to have Florida Tech keeper Cory Collins make a diving save.
With the tie, Clayton State is 3-1-2 on the season, while Florida Tech moves to 1-1-1 on the season. The Lakers will return to action on Wednesday, hosting
Pfeiffer University in a 6 p.m. match. Florida Tech will face Oglethorpe University in Atlanta on Sunday.
In the first half, neither team had a strong scoring threat. Clayton State’s best chance came with 2:54 remaining on a shot from 20 yards out from Kevin
Crooks.
Clayton State keeper Heath Padgett recorded his third shutout of the season with one save. Collins had four saves for the Panthers.
