Community Invited to Enroll in ‘World Textiles’

– Florida Tech will offer its first-ever textiles course, “History of World Textiles,” in fall 2006. The course is open to the community for a reduced fee
of $300 for audit credit only, which is less than half of what students will pay for the three-credit university course.

“History of World Textiles,” presented through the university’s new Textile Art and Industry program, will be taught by Dr. Lars Jones, assistant professor
of humanities. Several guest speakers, films and demonstrations will support Jones in examining the fabric of global society through a broad survey of
history, technology and art.

“We will weave together the historical and scholarly contexts in which textiles have literally shaped the course of world history from the Stone Age to the
post-colonial era,” said Jones. “The course will cover materials and basic production techniques as well as more complex analytical methods and techniques
of connoisseurship.” Jones, an art historian, earned a doctoral degree from Harvard University and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Arizona State
University.

The course begins August 22. It meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 5 to 6:15 p.m. in the Evans Library Pavilion, Room P133. For more information, call
