Davidson College Symphony Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble Come to Florida Tech Jan. 7 for Free Concerts

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Davidson College Symphony Orchestra, directed by Tara Villa Keith, and the Davidson College Jazz Ensemble, directed by William Lawing, will perform at the Gleason Performing Arts Center at Florida Institute of Technology Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 7:30 p.m. as a part of their Winter Tour 2014. The performances are free.

The Symphony Orchestra will perform music from their fall semester, including excerpts from Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances, Suppé’s Light Cavalry Overture, and more. The Jazz Ensemble will perform a variety of jazz styles, from the classic big band charts to contemporary compositions.

The 45 members of the ensembles, from different parts of the country, represent the broad diversity of talents, interests and career aspirations common at Davidson, a pre-eminent liberal arts college in Davidson, N.C. Jack Goffinet, a sophomore from Melbourne, has been a saxophonist and clarinetist in the Davidson College Jazz Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra for the last two years, and will be a featured performer throughout the Winter Tour.
