Florida Tech’s 3rd Annual Day of Giving: November 28, 2017
Florida Tech’s 3rd Annual Day of Giving – a 24-hour fundraising blitz – will take place from from 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on November 28.
This year’s theme centers on recovering lost treasure from the ocean.
Jensen Beach alumni say a treasure chest was lost years ago from the research vessel – Miss FIT – and it will take 2,000 divers (donors) to help find the treasure.
Day of Giving brings together alumni and friends of the university for a historic day of giving back to Florida Tech, it’s held in conjunction with the international effort known as Giving Tuesday, which follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and is a day of international philanthropy benefiting non-profit organizations.
Last year’s event attracted 1,942 donors from around the world, a 30-percent surge beyond the university’s goal, and organizers of this year’s event are hoping to top those totals.
Florida Tech’s Director of Annual Giving & Donor Relations Kim Amidon said this year the Day of Giving website will show real-time dollars and donors for each area of the university, as well as overall totals.
“The colleges are no longer competing against each other, but the leaderboard will list each college, athletics and unit in order of who has the most donors,” Amidon said. “Dive Central will also track the total number of donors, the alumni class year with the largest number of donors, and the “top diver” – the donor whose unique referral link brought in the most donations.”
Day of Giving Festival
Also added to this year’s event will be a Day of Giving festival on Crawford Green from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. complete with a live band, food trucks, inflatable games, and giveaways.
“We encourage students, alumni, faculty, and staff to bring a lawn chair and join us on Crawford Green to celebrate this day of giving back to Florida Tech. We will also have volunteers in the lobby of each main college building to raise awareness and support throughout the day,” Amidon said. “No matter where you go on campus, we want you to know that this is a special day for Florida Tech.”
Donations will be accepted online at dayofgiving.fit.edu, by phone at (321) 674-7190, and in person at the Alumni House.
“Donors may choose to support their college, athletics team, the Panther Fund, Botanical Garden, Evans Library, Museums, weVENTURE, or WFIT,” Amidon said. “Donations will go to the chosen area of the university, having a direct impact on our students, programs, research, or the arts.”
