Day Two: 2005 Chatham Orthopedics Pirate Volleyball Classic

SAVANNAH, Ga. – It was only fitting that the final game of the 2005 AASU/Chatham Orthopaedic Volleyball Classic would feature a five-game match, in a
two-day tournament filled with them, as host Armstrong Atlantic knocked off Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras, 3-2, to end Saturday’s action in the Classic.

Traci Knuth’s triple-double of 19 kills, 14 digs and 12 blocks helped AASU even its record in the Classic at 2-2. AASU also knocked off Lenoir-Rhyne, 3-0,
in earlier Saturday action.

No. 14-ranked Florida Southern was the only team to emerge from the Classic with an unbeaten 4-0 record, but the Mocs had to go to five games against USC
Upstate to accomplish the feat. Beverly Stasis’ 25 kills led the Mocs past the Spartans, 3-2, and Florida Southern defeated Catawba, 3-1, despite Melissa
Griffith’s 26 kills for the Indians earlier on Saturday. Wingate picked up two big wins on Saturday as the Bulldogs defeated Eckerd, 3-1, and Florida Gulf
Coast, 3-2. Francis Marion also picked up two wins on Saturday, defeating Rollins, 3-1, and Florida Tech, 3-0.

Rollins survived a five-game match against Presbyterian, defeating the Blue Hose, 3-2, while Florida Gulf Coast defeated Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras in another
five-game match, 3-2, behind Devon Watts’ 25 kills.
Eckerd outlasted USC Aiken in five games, 3-2, bringing the total number of five-game matches to 11 on the weekend.

In other final-day action: Lenoir-Rhyne defeated Augusta State, 3-0; USC Upstate defeated Valdosta State, 3-0; USC Aiken knocked off Florida Tech, 3-1;
Presbyterian downed Valdosta State, 3-0 and Catawba defeated Augusta State, 3-0.
