Florida Tech to Host 9th Annual High School Business Ethics Competition

– The Florida Tech College of Business will host its ninth annual high school business ethics competition on Friday, March
11. In the daylong event, juniors and seniors from Brevard County and other Central Florida high schools compete by developing solutions to thorny ethical
problems. More high schools are welcome to sign up for a chance to win cash prizes.

The competition’s finals will begin at 1 p.m. in the Crawford Building Auditorium, Room S112. Anyone interested in attending may contact the College of

Dr. Tim Hollingsworth, dean of the College of Business, said the competition gives these students a chance to start thinking about complex choices at an
early stage of professional development. “The students are tasked with a difficult situation that calls for tough, ethical decision making,” he said.
“While it is a competition with awards for the top three teams, the real focus of the day is to stimulate these young minds with a valuable learning
exercise.”

Judges for the competition come from a variety of career fields and include many prominent members of the community.

The event, sponsored by Community Educators’ Credit Union, offers $500 per member to the first-place team, $250 per member to the second-place team and
$125 per member to the third place team. If a member of the top two teams qualifies for Florida’s Bright Futures Scholarship Program, Florida Tech will
guarantee a minimum of $8,000 per year for each member of the first place team, and $6,000 for second place, per year. In addition to student prizes,
thanks to the Gannett Foundation, coaches of the presenting teams will be awarded $100 per team each to be used in purchasing classroom supplies.
