Florida Tech Business Ethics Conference April 12 Explores Issues, Answers in Academic Honesty
Event at Denius Student Center is Free, Open to Public
MELBOURNE, FLA. — Tackling academic honesty, leadership and ethical challenges with a compelling roster of speakers and experts, Florida Institute of Technology’s 16th annual Business Ethics and Leadership Conference will take place Tuesday, April 12, in the Hartley Room at the Denius Student Center on the university’s Melbourne campus.
Sponsored by Harris Corp. and Community Credit Union and hosted by Florida Tech’s Nathan Bisk College of Business, the free, public event starts with registration and continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and concludes at 1 p.m., following the provided lunch.
After a welcome by Steve Rivet, director of Florida Tech’s Center for Ethics and Leadership, the conference’s first session will feature Jutta Williams, Health First’s vice president for compliance and business ethics. Her topic is “Ethical Decisions: Early Development of Ethical Decision Making.”
Starting at 9:30 a.m., the day’s second speaker will be Tom McDaniel, Harris Corp.’s director of ethics and compliance. His 45-minute presentation is, “Business Perspective of Ethics Education.”
After a 15-minute break, the winning team in Florida Tech’s recently concluded high school ethics competition, from Rockledge High School, will offer its case presentation, “Novo Nordisk: Clinical Trials in Emerging Economies.”
At 11 a.m., the conference’s panel discussion will get underway. The focus of the discussion is “Academic Honesty: Opinions and Solutions.” The panel of business and academic experts features Kathy Cobb, associate vice president for academic programs and provost for eLearning at Eastern Florida State College, Brevard Public Schools Superintendent Desmond Blackburn, Dennis E. Keith, vice president, global security for Harris Corp., Dave Mathias, Health First senior vice president and corporate counsel, and Dr. Dave Weldon, a former congressman, physician and university clinical professor in Florida Tech’s Department of Biomedical Engineering. Natalie Plaia, Bisk College of Business graduating senior and a member of the Center for Ethics and Leadership, will moderate.
After the panel discussion, Laraine Schultz, senior vice president – investment officer, Wells Fargo Advisors, will be awarded the Nathan Bisk College of Business Ethics and Leadership Award for Community Engagement.
The conference concludes with lunch served at 12:30 p.m.
