Double Over-Time Couldn’t Determine a Winner in SSC Play

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (women’s soccer) – Double overtime couldn’t determine a winner in the 1-1 tie between the Tritons of Eckerd College and the
Panthers of Florida Tech.

The game slowly began with neither side gaining ball control to determine the field of play. Several times each team looked like they started to catch a
break but the defense for each team closed down quickly on the ball on every attack.

As play started to pick up and momentum on the Panthers side, Eckerd caught a break and found Amy Lambert (Bradenton, Fla.) sneaking past the defense with
a chip over the Panthers defense which put her 1v1 with goalie Melissa Pyles (Port Orange, Fla.) and buried the ball in the back of the net notching the
first goal of the game. Eckerd jumped ahead 1-0.

As the balance turned to Eckerd College the Panthers turned up the heat and caused mistakes by Eckerd’s defense which opened up holes for the Panthers to
take advantage. On a counter the Panther found Teresa Brantley (Satellite Beach, Fla) in the corner which she crossed directly to the head of Ericka
Hildreth (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) who buried the ball which tied the game at 1-1.

With the tying goal notched by the Panthers, they pushed and controlled nearly the first half but the score remained knotted 1-1 going into half.

Even with the break, Eckerd couldn’t slow down the Panthers in trying to capture the lead and win the game. Despite several attempts throughout the second
half, neither team could find the back of the net.

Going into overtime the scored remained 1-1.

Playing in post regulation time both teams pushed through their midfield to find ways to score the winning goal each coming up short. At the
end of double overtime the Pnathers and the Triotns exhausted their attempts with the final score ending in a one all tie.

The tie moves the Panthers to a 2-1-1 overall record and a 0-0-1 record in the SSC.

The Panthers continue play hosting Bethel College Sunday September 3rd at 2:00 p.m. in a double header with the Men’s soccer team.
