Jazz Band and Artist to Highlight Homecoming 2007

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Hafer Family, a jazz quartet featuring vocalist Lorri Hafer, will play at the Florida Tech Panthereum on Thursday, Oct. 18, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. as part of Homecoming 2007. Brevard County painter and Florida Tech alumna, Liz Schafer, will paint her abstract impressions of the music and offer her work at auction following the performance. The event is free.

What they say about the Hafer Family’s Lorri and Mike:
“Lorri is a tremendous jazz singer and her husband Mike is an extraordinary pianist. . .” said Roy Daniels, former president of the Hernando Jazz Society.

“Ms. Hafer is a songstress with a magical empathy for the old show tunes and good jazz. . . and if there’s a better enunciator of lyrics—every syllable is Waterford crystal—I’ve yet to hear her. . . For his part, Mike plays piano with an exceedingly deft touch. . .” said Bill McDonald of “Night Lights.”

Schafer’s works are currently on display in Florida Tech’s Evans Library.

The Panthereum is located off Country Club Road, near the Denius Student Center. For more information, call WFIT 89.5-FM at (321) 674-8140.
