Entertainers, Vendors Sought for Florida Tech Eighth International Festival

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Entertainers will share their cultural talents and crafts, and food vendors will do their part in Florida Institute of Technology’s Eighth Annual International Festival on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 from noon to 5 p.m. Now is the time to consider participating in the event, which will take place at the university’s outdoor Panthereum, located off Country Club Drive. 

The application deadline is Dec. 13, 2013 for cultural entertainers and displays/booths, and Jan. 14, 2014 for food and retail vendors.

Every year community singers, dancers and musicians join with Florida Tech international student organizations to present a colorful lineup of ethnic entertainment. For example, in 2013, members of the Capoeira Karkara group performed Afro-Brazilian martial arts rhythm and movements, and local group Wah Lum Kung Fu & Tai Chi performed a traditional Chinese lion dance. Also displaying their national colors werethe Greek American Association of Brevard dance troupe and Fore Scare West Africa dance and instrumentals group.

Among those joining them were Florida Tech’s all-faculty rock ‘n roll band TWITCHY, and various Florida Tech student organizations, including the Caribbean Students Association, Indian Students Association, UAE Students Group, African Student Association, Shik Shak Belly Dancers, Street Dance Club, and Saudi Students Union.

Special consideration will be given to vendors selling cultural/ folkloric wares, and to not-for-profit service organizations. Only handmade and homemade crafts may be offered for sale at the event.
