Entertainers, Vendors Sought for Florida Tech International Festival 2013

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Entertainers will share their cultural talents and craft and food vendors will do their part in Florida Institute of Technology’s Seventh Annual International Festival on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 from noon to 5 p.m. Now is the time to start thinking about participating in the event, which will take place at the university’s outdoor Panthereum, located off Country Club Drive.

The application deadline is Nov. 30 for cultural entertainers and displays/booths, and Jan. 15 for food vendors.

Every year community singers, dancers and musicians join with Florida Tech international student organizations to present a colorful lineup of ethnic entertainment. For example, in 2012, musicians and dancers from Brevard Indonesian Angklung & Dance Group played traditional instruments and L’Ahavat Tzion Folk Dancers of Brevard performed a traditional Israeli folk dance. Also displaying their national colors werethe Greek American Association of Brevard dance troupe and Fore Scare West Africa dance and instrumentals group. Among those joining in were Florida Tech’s all-faculty band TWITCHY, Florida Tech student band Echo Boomerz, the UAE student group, Saudi Students Union, African Student Association, Capoeira Karkara, Caribbean Students Association, and Shik Shak Belly Dancers.

Special consideration will be given to vendors selling cultural/ folkloric wares, and to not-for-profit service organizations. Only handmade and homemade crafts may be offered for sale at the event.
The festival is sponsored by Florida Tech International Student and Scholar Services, Florida Tech Residence Life, WFIT 89.5FM and the Melbourne Regional Chamber of East Central Florida.
