Ethos Community Garden Grand Opening Friday, Feb. 17

WHAT: Florida Institute of Technology is opening the Ethos Community Garden, a 59-foot-by-39-foot fenced-in area that houses nearly two dozen planting beds and will serve as a future platform for sustainable education, provide a conversation highlight for campus tours, allow residents the chance to become self-sufficient in food cultivation skills, and become the catalyst for larger sustainability-based movements around campus.

WHEN: 4-5:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17: Remarks from 4:10-4:30 p.m.; ribbon cutting, tours and planting, 4:30-5:30 p.m.

WHO: Speakers include Florida Tech President T. Dwayne McCay, Residence Life Sustainability Committee members and students Zach Eichholz, the project leader, and Lexi Miller; and University Sustainability Officer Daniel Sutton.

MORE: The Residence Life Sustainability Committee, comprised of 18 student resident assistants, applied for and won a competitive, $4,000 grant from the California-based Foundation for Sustainability and Innovation to help cover the cost of the garden. Florida Tech is also helping to fund the project.
