Foosaner Art Museum French Film Festival Launches April 5 with The Red Balloon; Food and Music Slated

MELBOURNE, FLA.—April in Paris comes to the Eau Gallie Arts District, Friday, April 5,with an outdoor screening of the French classic The Red Balloon at 8:30 p.m. in Eau Gallie Square. The free film under the stars, a partnership of Florida Institute of Technology’s Foosaner Art Museum and Brevard Parks and Recreation, kicks off the museum’s French Film Festival.

Food vendors and entertainment will be on site at the film screening in the park, which coincides with the Eau Gallie Arts District’s (EGAD) First Friday Art Walk.

Among those providing refreshments will be Veggie Love, offering organic and locally grown foods, and The Crepe Company, serving sweet and savory crepes from a European-style crepe cart. EGAD merchant Elbow Creek Garden & Gift will offer French wine and cheese, and Funk’s Antiquary will hold a champagne reception.

Performing in EGAD Square will be DJ Tantrum, spinning French lounge music, and Johnny Accordion. The Gypsy Jazz Trio will entertain in the Foosaner Art Museum galleries.

The festival continues through April 18 with two screenings per week in the Foosaner Art Museum’s Harris Auditorium for an admission fee of $5. Saturday, April 6 at 2 p.m., “Jules and Jim;” Thursday, April 11 at 7 p.m., “Breathless;” Saturday, April 13 at 2 p.m., “L’amour Fou;” Thursday, April 18 at 7 p.m., “Belle de Jour.” All the films are New Wave French or relevant to the 60s, connecting with the museum’s exhibit of works by French photographer Leon Herschtritt, on view March 16-May 12.
