Florida Tech in Orlando Sets Community Coffee for June 13

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Leslie Hielema, vice president, Florida Institute of Technology’s Orlando Center, invites representatives of local businesses and organizations to attend a community coffee Thursday, June 13, starting at 8:30 a.m. with networking at the Citrus Club in Orlando. The program, 9 to 10 a.m., will introduce the university’s top executives and faculty, including President and CEO Anthony J. Catanese.

Catanese will explain why Orlando is important to Florida Tech. He will also share his vision of the future and why there is much to be gained by stronger partnerships between the 55-year-old university and area organizations.

Other leaders that will participate in the dialogue include T. Dwayne McCay, executive vice president and COO, who will talk about the university’s extensive international partnerships, and Capt. Winston Scott,senior vice president for external relations and economic development, and former astronaut, who will describe space research partnerships.

Also speaking will be Kunal Mitra, professor and program chair, biomedical engineering program, who will discuss important work in lasers, photonics and biomedical research for applications such as tumor and landmine detection, laser-based skin cancer treatment, and solar collectors and photovoltaic systems; Dean Ann Becker, Nathan M. Bisk College of Business, who will share work in technology commercialization, innovation and entrepreneurship; and Dean Kenneth Stackpoole, College of Aeronautics, and vice president forAviation Programs, who will discuss what’s new in pilot training and simulation.
