F.I.T. Aviation Summer Flight Camps Open to Grades 7-12; Set for June and July

MELBOURNE, FLA.—F.I.T. Aviation at Florida Institute of Technology will offer flight camps for grades 7-12 in June and July. Students, who will enjoy a unique opportunity to explore the vast and exciting world of aviation, will learn about the dynamics of airplanes and the principles of flight while being exposed to the broad spectrum of careers in the aviation industry. All camps will be held at F.I.T. Aviation in Melbourne each day, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The flight camp for grades 7-9 is set for June 10-14 and the camp for grades 10-12 will be held June 24-28. Among many activities, participating students will fly an advanced flight simulation device, visit air traffic controllers, hear from aviation experts and take controls of an aircraft and fly.

Flight camp is a prerequisite for those who wish to attend the Advanced Aviation Academy July 8-12, which is open to students grades 7-12. They will learn instrument flying, aeromedical factors and radio communication, and take field trips to Northrop Grumman, Baer Air and the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum.

Advanced Aviation Academy is a prerequisite for the Aviation/Aerospace Experience July 15-27. In week one, students will visit the JetBlue and AeroStar training facility at the Orlando International Airport and tour the Orlando Air Traffic Control facility. The campers will also fly to the NASA Shuttle Landing facility and tour Kennedy Space Center. The second week, aerospace-themed, will involve model rocket construction and launch, scuba instruction and other underwater activities.

The cost for each flight camp is $550; the Advanced Aviation Academy is $600; and the Aviation/Aerospace Experience, $950. Students at flight camp will also have a daily buffet lunch in the Panther Dining Hall on campus. To reserve a spot, a $100 non-refundable deposit towards the total cost is required by May 1.
