Fettes and Cavazos Named NFCA National Scholar Athletes for the 2006 Softball Season
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The National Fast Pitch Coaches Association announced their annual scholar athlete-awards for the 2005-2006 season; this award is given
to a collegiate softball player achieving a 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale. The Panthers had two players receive this honor for the 2006 season including
senior Kristen Fettes (Deltona, Fla.) and sophomore Rebecca Cavazos (Dallas, Tex.).
Fettes, a three-time NFCA Scholar Athlete, had a tremendous junior season on and off the field. She was named to the 2006 All Sunshine State Conference
first-team at the utility position. This is her second time making the All- SSC team with an honorable mention nod her freshman year in 2003. She is also a
three-time Florida Tech Scholar-Athlete from 2004, 2005 and 2006.
Fettes has repeatedly made the Spring SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll for 2004, 2005 and 2006. She was honored towards the end of the 2006 campaign making
the SSC Commissioner’s List of Outstanding Achievement for the month of April.
She is a Forensic psychology major at Florida Tech and should graduate with honors in the spring. Fettes has maintained a 3.8 GPA while managing to pull
off three semesters with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Sophomore, newcomer, Cavazos stepped up academically as a freshman last season earning a 3.8 GPA as well. Cavazos notched a perfect 4.0 her first semester
and managed to stay focus during her first season of play finishing with 3.6 GPA for the spring.
She is a Psychology major at Florida Tech and was a great team player her freshman season pitching in wherever was needed to help the team reach a final
record 31-16 overall and 15-9 in the SSC.
