Florida Tech and Rollins Top the 2006 Holiday Classic Overcoming Albany State and Ft. Valley State

MELBOURNE, Fla. — In the final day of the 2006 Holiday Classic the Florida Tech Panthers
(9-2) came back to defeat the Ft. Valley State Lady Wildcats (5-4) 62-56 while the Rollins Tars defeated the Albany State Golden Rams 57-51 in overtime
action. Despite the effortless win on day one of the classic for Florida Tech (79-40) and the 16 point-victory for Rollins (64-48), both the Tars and the
Panthers trailed most of the day today with each team making a late comeback to both stay undefeated in the SSC/SIAC crossover.

At the end of the classic, Rollins’ top player senior Larissa McDonough (Ormond Beach, Fla.) was named the Most Valuable Player for her performance
averaging 15.5 points per game, 12.5 rebounds per game and 1.5 blocks per game. Fellow teammate and starting sophomore guard Jennifer Dyer (Wake Forest,
N.C) was also named to the All Classic team averaging 10.0 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game and 2.5 assists and steals per game.

Fort Valley State and Albany State rounded out the six person All-Classic Team with senior Lesley Code (Aurora, Co.) and junior La’Toya Coard (Augusta,
Ga.). Leading the way for the Lady Wildcats Code finished averaging 11.5 point per game and 3.0 assists per game. The Golden Rams’ Coard average 12.0
points per game, 3.0 assist per game and led all players’ from the arc with eight three-point shots averaging 4.0 per game.

In game three, the Tars overcame a 48-48 regular playing time finish to upset Albany State scoring nine points to the Golden Rams three to take the match.
McDonough was a huge part of their win scoring a team high 13 points and a classic high 16 rebounds for the double double. She also chipped in four
assists, two blocks and three steals.

Junior point guard Jennifer Musgrove (Melbourne, Fla.) also notched double figures with eleven points going 7-for-9 from the line. Dyer added eight points
while junior Jennifer Catti (Ft. Myers, Fla.) produced nine points and seven rebounds.

The Lady Cats’ Coard led all scorers with 15 points going 5-for-11 from downtown. Junior forward Aldrany Peak (Shellman, Ga.) had eleven points and six
rebounds. Defensively sophomore Ashley Scroggins (Metter, Ga.) pulled down eleven boards and added six points.

Despite shooting 34.7% to the Tars’ 29.2% from the field Albany State could not get it together in the final five minutes of overtime and could not prevent
Rollins from pulling ahead with three field goals and two trips to the charity stripe.

In the final game, Florida Tech came back from trailing the Lady Wildcats most of the game to a final surge in the last five minutes for the game. Fort
Valley State held the lead the entire second half of play until a lay-up by Heminger at 4:26on the clock to knot the game 49-49. Prior to that Tamilio hit
a huge game turning shot from the arc to bring the score with-in one point.

Senior guard Danielle Vaughn (Tallahassee, Fla.) grabbed the first lead by the Panthers after making one-of –two from the line. Senior Shante Johnson
(Orlando, Fla.) was next to make it to the charity tripe hitting both her free chances pushing Tech up 52-49 and the crimson and gray hoopsters never
looked back.

Junior Tenisha Chase (Upper Marlboro, Md.) made the play-of-the-week after stealing the ball from a visitor’s throw in under the basket and launching from
the floor after falling and hitting the lay-up.

Senior forward Danise Fequiere (Miami, Fla.) was Tech’s stand-up performer for the day tying with Tamilio for the game high 14 points. She pulled down
seven board going 4-for-5 from the field and 6-for-8 from the line. Tamilio chipped in five assists.

Heminger also had seven boards and added 11 points. Again, freshman Lindsay Greene (Stallings, N.C.) blocked two shots leading all players with for the
classic with 4 blocks.

Freshman guard Takesha Riggs (Homestead, Fla.) led her team with 13 points. Riggs hit six from the field. Code had eleven points. Senior center Deborah
Jones (Birmingham, Ala.) finished with seven rebounds and nine points.

For the game both teams combined for 50 turnovers, despite the loss Fort Valley shot an impressive 41.7% from the filed to Tech’s 29.3%. Tech’s victory
came from the use of Coach Reynolds’ strong team depth with the Panthers scoring 37 of their points from the bench, while the Lady Wildcats managed only 14
points from the 6th man club.

The Panthers will begin Sunshine State Conference play next week hosting Lynn University in a 5:30 p.m. tip-off followed by the men’s game at 7:30 p.m.
