Fiske Guide Again Names Florida Tech Among Best Schools

Florida Institute of Technology is one of just nine public and private schools in Florida chosen by the 2012 Fiske Guide to Colleges. The university was included among 330 nationwide in the top-rated guide to the best colleges, which was just published earlier in July.

Fiske places Florida Tech in the “inexpensive” category for private schools and lists it under the heading, “Engineering/Top Technical Institutes.” USA Today calls the book, “The best college guide you can buy.”

The Fiske Guide calls itself selective and subjective. It doesn’t try to cover all of the United States’ more than 2,200 four-year colleges but showcases the colleges it considers best, most interesting and the ones that students “most want to know about.”

The 2012 edition selects the country’s best and most interesting colleges and universities from among all the four-year U.S. institutions. In addition, an effort was made to achieve geographic diversity and a balance of public and private schools.

Fiske rates colleges separately, from one to five, on academics, social life and quality of life. A grade of three, which Florida Tech got in each area, is the typical score of schools in the book.

Florida Tech is regularly lauded in other guides, such as those by U.S. News and World Report, payscale.com and the Princeton Review.
